WHAT IS TITHING?
Financial giving in church is done in two ways: tithes and offerings. The Bible teaches that we worship the Lord by bringing Him our tithe, which is typically 10% of our annual income. When we give above and beyond our tithe, it’s called an offering.
The Bible teaches us the baseline standard for giving: our tithe. When we give the first 10% of our income to the church, we put God first in our lives. Tithing is an act of worship that expresses our gratitude, faith, and love for others.
When it comes to the teachings of the Lord Jesus, 15% had to do with money. In fact, 11 out of 39 Parables were about money, meaning this was His most taught subject. As a church it is important that we talk about money because this is a significant, perhaps the most significant issue that people must be discipled in if they are to walk the way of Jesus.
God tells us in His Word that He loves a cheerful giver, which is why we always want to create opportunities to give of our resources as He leads us. There is zero obligation to give, but rather an open opportunity for you to honor and worship God with your resources.
